I have read through ALL of the reviews today (I was looking for one in particular) ... and I noticed this was asked a few times.
SO, I figured I would post it here and prod our Erin into answering!!

I saw this question asked in the reviews and my understanding from reading was that it was the status of their relationship that caused for the more formal address. There is no emotional intimacy within their relationship, which is why it is such a big deal to them to be using petname for each other as they begin to open up. Again, this is just how I interpretted that detail. I could quite easily be way off on the assessment.

Hi Everyone...
Okay, Edward calls Isabella...Isabella because that is who she is to him. To her parents she's Bella and Bells, to Em and Rose she's Bella, she's Aunt Bella to Jack and Emma...but to Edward, she's always been Isabella.
Always has been, always will be.
